There is no denying that the COVID-19 pandemic and virus is serious business. There is no denying the far-reaching impact that this virus has. From ripping families apart due to sickness, or the total destruction of countries and economies.

Look around. The long-lasting effect is there.

And unfortunately, it has given a government that has failed its people and country many times over, a taste of power. The type of power that can choose who is allowed to do what, and who is allowed to trade. With no logic behind their decisions.

If you think that this is not true, take a look at South Africa. A country devasted by the pandemic and government regulations.

Government has taken the decision to close beaches, but keep pubs and clubs open. Government has decided to keep the “hot zone” of the latest outbreak open (Ballito), but close the beaches on the Garden Route (a good 1 000km away). When asked about the logic, the presidency requested extension.

Why does this matter?

The estimated loss of revenue for businesses in these small towns that have been relying on the festive season. The one season that accounts for more than 80% of their annual income. Now gone, as people from all over have started cancelling their bookings. Because, who wants to drive to the coast, but not go to the beach???
